The Tradition Of Louis Latour French Oak Barrels
During my 40 years of making wine, I relied on Latour barrels to showcase my wines for over 20 vintages. The barrels are coopered in a manner of toast and wood selection specifically to showcase the Domaine's cru vineyard sites. The barrels respect the fruit's sense of place, or terroir, leaving the pure expression of the vineyard to shine while enhancing its age ability.
Coopers since at least 1731, when Denis Latour acquired the family's first vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, the Latour family integrated the barrel business with grape growing. In 1768, Denis's son Jean Latour moved to Aloxe-Corton to establish an independent cooperage, laying the groundwork for estate wine production in 1797 with the founding of Maison Louis Latour. The singularity of coopering in one style has led to an industry-leading consistency. The Louis Latour cooperage represents the pinnacle of traditional French oak barrels.
